The Bay Ledges House located in Roque Bluffs, Maine is a very private 3 bedroom and 2½ bath sanctuary set on 11 acres that is perched high above the sea and gives its guests a wonderful elevated view of Kennebec Bay and the expansive Atlantic Ocean beyond.
![]() The ocean side of this house has a southern exposure that takes in most of the day’s sun and guests will enjoy catching the rays on the full width wrap-around deck as they view the distant seascapes. The deck comes with gas grill and deck furniture that promotes outside meals and relaxing in the wonderful ocean air.
The centerpiece of this house is its first floor open cathedral great room with large ocean view windows that make for a bright and captivating living area setting. Also in the great room are a roomy ocean view dining area as well as half bath, breakfast bar and well stocked kitchen that includes all cookware, place settings, utensils and dishwasher.
![]() ![]() Also on the first floor is a back guest bedroom with two twin beds and full bath. The master bedroom is located on the second floor and comes with a plush queen size bed and master bath.
![]() ![]() Also on the second is a guest room with a double bed and computer work station with HughesNet High Speed Internet connection. Both of the bedrooms on the second floor have ocean views.
Also included in this house are all linens, phone, washer, dryer, two satellite TV’s, DVD player, CD player, microwave, wood stove and firewood. Although this house is not directly on the water vacationers can access the ocean with a 10 minute walk to the Duck Cove access area and stroll the seashore or launch a sea kayak and explore the inner islands. The house is only 7 miles from Machias and its many shops and restaurants. It’s also only 7 miles to Roque Bluffs State Park beach with its half mile stretch of sand which is great for beachcombing, wading and swimming. Vacationers can also hike the park’s trails or fish the park’s freshwater pond for brook trout and brown trout.
Whale watching, schooner trips and deep sea fishing excursions can be arranged with Captain Butch Harris out of Eastport. Renters enjoy exploring West Quoddy and East Quoddy Head lighthouses in Lubec and Campobello, touring the Roosevelt House on Campobello, where President Franklin Roosevelt spent summers, canoeing the Downeast rivers such as the Machias, East Machias, Denny’s and Pleasant and fishing the many lakes and ponds such as Cathance, Gardner’s, Rocky, Mark’s, Six Mile, Bog, Long, Schoodic, Tunk and Spring River Lakes for salmon, trout and bass. Dining in area restaurants, picking out lobsters at lobster pounds such as Look’s in Jonesport, B&B Lobster in Bucks Harbor and Little River Lobster in Cutler, shopping at little antique and gift stores in the small villages of Machias, Jonesport, Lubec, Cutler, Milbridge and Eastport are also part of our vacationers itinerary. Guests will enjoy visiting the Burnham Tavern in Machias where the first battle of the Revolution was planned and viewing the Indian petrogyphs pecked into the ocean shale stone centuries ago by Shaman along Machias Bay. These and many other sights and adventures await you along this portion of our rural and scenic Maine coastline.

Rental Fees: House is 1½ hours from Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park and Ellsworth and 2 hours from Bangor International Airport. The house is also 1 hour from Eastport, Lubec and Canada’s Campobello Island. It is 1 hour and 15 minutes to Calais and New Brunswick Canada. The house is also 5 hours from Portland, 6 hours from Boston and 10 hours from New York City.
