The Big Lake Beach Camp is one of Hearts of Maine’s rustic but comfortable get-a-ways that offers guests comfortable remote accommodations on one of Maine’s most scenic lakes and famous vacation areas. The Big Lake Beach Camp is located on beautiful Big Lake, which is just outside of the village of Princeton, an area known for decades as a fisherman’s destination.
A remote setting, wonderful sunsets and frequent moose sightings are the hallmark of this house. The Beach Camp accommodates 9 guests with it’s three bedrooms in the main house and one bedroom in the guest cottage.
The master bedroom is located on the first floor of the main house and offers a queen size bed. The two guest rooms in the main house are located on the second floor and feature a queen size bed in the north bedroom and a queen and twin bed in the south bedroom.
The house also features a well equipped kitchen with all cookware, place settings, utensils, cupboard space, gas stove and refrigerator. The living room offers guests a relaxing space with fireplace to gather around with family and friends and watch the lake’s wildlife and ever-changing scenery. The dining area is located in the living room and has comfortable seating for 8.
The house also boasts a waterside picnic table, gas grill and outdoor fire pit. The house also comes with a kayak, paddles and life jackets.
This camp has a beach shorefront with dock that offers vacationers great swimming, boating, canoeing, kayaking and world class smallmouth bass fishing opportunities, not to mention a chance to boat across the lake and fly fish on Grand Lake Stream, one of Maine’s top five landlocked salmon streams, located only 3 miles from the house.
Alternately, guests may choose to take the short drive into the village of Grand Lake Stream and take in the scenic foray into the past as you pass by small, quaint guide’s houses, fishing lodges and the famed clear water of the stream. Stop by the historic Pine Tree Store and lend an ear to the fishermen’s liars bench and hear tales of the wilderness or purchase one of the store’s wooden guide pack baskets or choose from the many hand tied salmon and trout flies.
You can also rent a boat and troll on West Grand Lake for lake trout and landlocked salmon. There are many small brook trout ponds dotting the area where anglers can fly, spin or worm fish to their heart’s content.
There are also some of the best moose watching opportunities in the state here and many helpful people or guides to help show you the way to the most frequented moose watering holes. This storied village and area are waiting for you!
The cottage is 3 hours northeast of Bangor and 6 1/2 hours from Portland. It is also 7 1/2 hours from Boston and 12 hours from New York City. It’s also 1 1/2 hours from Machias and 3 ˝ hours from Bar Harbor.
The cottage rents from Saturday to Saturday.
