The Cathance Lake House is a comfortable 5 bedroom home away from home waterfront retreat, located on beautiful Cathance Lake in Cooper, Maine.

Situated only 50 feet from the water’s edge and perched up high, the view of the lake from this home is commanding, taking in most of the southern basin and providing views of spectacular sunrises.

Cathance is a granite-based crystal clear 2,905 acre lake that is both sandy and rocky, making it perfect for swimming and fishing.

The house has a nice waterside lawn, dock and deep swimming area.

The house has an open waterside deck, perfect for cookouts, lounging in the sun or watching family members swim and fish. The lake is little known by people outside of Washington County, but those who have been there eagerly return each year.

Cathance Lake has one of the state’s premier landlocked salmon fisheries as well as a quality brook trout population and numerous smallmouth bass. By Maine standards, the lake is fairly large but its shores are mostly undeveloped, making its extended shoreline very scenic, wild and terrific for exploring with a canoe or kayak.

The lake has secluded sandy swimming beaches that guests love paddling to for a relaxing swim or to just bask in the sun on. There are also a number of brook trout streams that feed the lake making for terrific brook trout fishing opportunities for those who want to explore the remote parts of the surrounding landscape.

This lake house accommodates 8 guests and its interior is modern, featuring five bedrooms, sunroom, dining area, living room with fireplace, spacious kitchen and two full baths.

Three of the bedrooms, including the master bedroom and a full bath are located up-stairs and the remaining two guest rooms and a full bath are on the first floor. The master bedroom features a queen size bed and has an attached master bath. There is also a small child’s bedroom with twin bed attached to the master bedroom. Another larger guest room with queen size bed is also located up-stairs. The remaining two rooms located on the first floor feature a full size bed and a smaller bedroom with a twin bed.

The living room has two couches, satellite TV and a DVD player, high speed Internet access plus games for the whole family. The house includes all cook ware, place settings, utensils, linens, microwave, outdoor gas grill, dock and canoe with paddles and life jackets.

Shopping for your time here is best done in Machias at the large Hannaford supermarket located on Route 1. There are also many restaurants in Machias that are only 25 minutes away. Or guests can travel 30 minutes to Calais and enjoy a number of restaurants there. Also not far away are many breathtaking coastal hiking trails located in Cutler, Lubec and Whiting, where visitors can bird watch or just marvel at the spectacle of the rugged Maine seashore.

There are also boat tours guests can take out of Eastport, Lubec and Cutler that are only 40 minutes away from the house. In Eastport guest can take whale watching trips out in the mouth of the Bay of Fundy aboard the Silvina Beal or go deep sea fishing for flounder, mackerel and cod with Captain Butch Harris. In Cutler sightseers can cruise the bays and Bold Coast area or take the tour to see the Atlantic Puffins at Machias Seal Island with Captain Andy Patterson.

Golfers at the house have their choice of quality courses in the area which include the St. Croix Golf Course in Calais, Herring Cove Golf Course on Campobello Island and the Barren View Golf Course in Jonesboro.

Guests will also enjoy the ability to travel to nearby Canada through the border town of Calais and visit the Ganong Chocolate Factory in St. Stephen or the beautiful seaside resort village of St. Andrews By The Sea. Campobello Island is also in Canada and visitors can travel through Lubec to this beautiful deep-water Maritime Isle, where they can beach comb and view spouting whales from East Quoody Head Lighthouse. July 13 - August 24: $1,100
August 24 - September 7: $750
September 7 - October 26: $675

The reservation deposit is 50% of the rental fee and 7% state lodging tax.
The remainder payment is due 30 days prior to arrival.
A refundable $500 damage deposit or Visa or MasterCard number is also due 30 days prior to arrival.
Dogs only are welcome but smoking in the house is not permitted.

The Cathance Lake House is 25 minutes from Machias, 2 hours from Ellsworth, 2 hours and 15 minutes from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.

The house is also 2½ hours from the Bangor International Airport, 30 minutes from Calais and St. Stephen Canada, and 45 minutes from Campobello Island.

The house is also 6½ hours from Boston and 10½ hours from New York City.
