Welcome to one of Hearts of Maine’s coziest contemporary lakefront cottages. The Loon’s Nest Cottage is an elegant 2 bedroom, 2 full bath getaway tucked away in the balsams on the shore of beautiful Bog Lake in Northfield, Maine.

This private and modern cabin comes with all the amenities of home and is a great retreat for a honeymoon couple, small family or two couples looking for a remote waterfront vacation. Loon’s Nest boasts great swimming, fishing for smallmouth bass, canoeing and grilling. It’s also only 20 minutes from the Atlantic coast and fine restaurants that offer terrific lobster dining.

The cottage features a grand king size bed in the master bedroom and has an attached spacious master bath. The guest bedroom sports a queen size bed and a guest bath with big Jacuzzi tub and shower. The great room brags a wonderful modern kitchen, dining area and comfortable living area with center fieldstone fireplace.

The cottage comes complete with all linens, firewood, washer, dryer, satellite TV with DVD player, high speed Internet, Bose CD music system, dishwasher, gas grill, all cookware, place settings, utensils, dock, and canoe with paddles and life jackets.

Activities in the area include: coastal hiking trails at Roque Bluffs State Park, along with its quarter mile oceanfront sandy beach and freshwater wading pond, which is annually stocked with brook trout and brown trout and can be fished for successfully right from shore.

Close by are two nine-hole golf courses: one par three course in Roque Bluffs and a new beautiful 4 par course in Jonesboro. Guests can also enjoy guided sea kayaking trips with Sunrise County Canoe & Kayak in Machias and Atlantic puffin tours to Machias Seal Island with Bold Coast Charter out of Cutler.

There are also spectacular oceanside hikes at the Bold Coast and Western Head trails out of Cutler and The Nature Conservancy trails on Great Wass Island out of Beals. Visitors will also find a gold mine of antique shops in the quaint local fishing villages with a plethora of items from bygone eras. Guests to the area will also find the site of the first naval battle of the Revolutionary War at Fort O’Brien State Park in Machiasport interesting as well as ancient Indian petroglyph carvings pecked into the lei ten shale ledges along the ocean by shaman thousands of years ago.

Deep sea fishing charters for cod, Atlantic mackerel and flounder are also available out of Eastport as well as schooner sightseeing tours and whale watching trips on the Sylvina W. Beal out of Eastport harbor.

The cottage is 2 hours east of Bangor and the Bangor International Airport. Five hours northeast of Portland, 6 hours from Boston and 11 hours from New York City. The cottage is also 2 hours from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The cottage is 1 hour from Eastport and 45 minutes from Lubec and Campobello Island.

The cottage rents from Saturday to Saturday.

A 50% deposit is required to reserve the cottage.

Balance due 30 days prior to arrival.

A $500.00 refundable security deposit is required for damage/excessive cleaning costs.

No extra cleaning fees or pet fees are required.

Check-in time 3:00 PM and check-out time 10:00 AM the following Saturday.

The cottage does not permit pets or smoking.
