The Ocean Chimes Beach House is an elegant beachfront home located in Roque Bluffs, one of the most scenic seaside villages on the Maine coast.
Guests at Ocean Chimes can beach comb to their heart’s content and the beach in front of the house is a perfect place to launch sea kayaks and paddle the many islands, inlets and rugged shorelines. Coastal hiking and lighthouse exploring abound in this area and don’t forget the numerous quaint fishing villages with affordable seafood.
Hear the ocean, smell the crisp clean air, view the blissful ever-changing ocean scenery and feel the sand in between your toes. What could be better? The house is available for weekly stays for up to 4 adults.
The Ocean Chimes Beach House can accommodate 4 adults with its 5 bedrooms featuring 1 king, 1 queen, 1 double and 3 twin beds. Its upstairs master bedroom with comfortable queen size bed also boasts a chaired balcony with bird’s-eye view of the ocean and beach. It has a wonderful, well equipped spacious kitchen which transitions seamlessly into an ocean view dining room.
The bright and airy living room with fireplace is heavenly as you sit by the tranquil fire and watch the ocean roll onto the beach. The cozy TV room is a great place to escape to watch the ocean, curl up with a book or watch a favorite show or movie.
A convenient feature of the house is that the dining, living and TV rooms all have step-out sliding glass doors for easy access to the large wrap-around deck. This south facing deck comes complete with comfortable lounge chairs and gas grill, and takes full advantage of the sun most all of the day, making for a terrific place to bask in its warmth while feeling the light ocean breezes from the southwest.
At the edge of the lawn there is a beach vista with Adirondack chairs which is perfect for handholding, quiet talks and ocean watching. The horseshoe pit is available for a lively game and there is a fire dish for therapeutic evening fires and story telling circles.
Area activities include:
- Hiking, swimming and fishing at nearby Roque Bluffs State Park.
- Hiking the Boldcoast and Western Head trails in Cutler and the Great Wass Island trails on The Nature Conservancy land outside of the village of Beals.
- Boating out to see the Atlantic Puffins on Machias Seal Island with Captain Andy Patterson out of Cutler Harbor.
- Taking sea kayaking tours to view the ocean landscapes and marine life with guide Robbie Scribner from Sunrise County Canoe and Kayak.
- Taking bay cruises with Captain Barbara Fish out of Jonesport to tour the Jonesport Archipelago.
- Whale watching, schooner trips and deep sea fishing excursions with Captain Butch Harris out of Eastport.
- Exploring West Quoddy and East Quoddy Head Lighthouses in Lubec and Campobello.
- Touring the Roosevelt House on Campobello where former President Franklin Roosevelt summered.
- Canoeing Downeast rivers such as the Machias, East Machias, Denny’s and Pleasant.
- Fishing the many lakes and ponds such as Cathance, Gardner’s, Rocky, Mark’s, Six Mile, Bog, Long, Schoodic, Tunk and Spring River Lakes for salmon, trout and bass.
- Dining in area restaurants or picking out lobsters at lobster pounds such as Look’s in Jonesport, B&B Lobster in Bucks Harbor and Little River Lobster in Cutler.
- Shopping at little antique and gift stores in the small villages like Machias, Jonesport, Lubec, Cutler, Milbridge and Eastport.
- Visiting the Burnham Tavern in Machias, where the first battle of the Revolutionary War was planned.
- Viewing the Indian petrogyphs pecked into the ocean shale stone centuries ago by Shamans along Machias Bay.

50% reservation deposit required. Balance of rental fees due 30 days prior to arrival.
Rental Fees (per week):
May 1 - June 12: $850
June 12 - June 26: $1,200
June 26 - August 21: $1,900
August 21 - September 4: $1,400
September 4 - October 16: $1,000
$500 refundable security deposit for damage/excessive cleaning costs.
House rents Saturday to Saturday. Adults only. Pets and smoking are not permitted.
House is 1½ hours from Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park and Ellsworth and 2 hours from Bangor International Airport.
The house is also 1 hour from Eastport, Lubec and Canada’s Campobello Island. It’s 1 hour and 15 minutes to Calais and New Brunswick Canada.
The house is also 5 hours from Portland, 6 hours from Boston and 10 hours from New York City.
