The Salmon Cottage is one of Hearts of Maine’s home away from home getaways offering guests very comfortable accommodations on one of Maine’s most scenic lakes and famous vacation areas in the state.
![]() This cottage is located on beautiful Big Lake, just outside of the village of Grand Lake Stream, a locale known for decades to be a fisherman’s paradise and one of the state’s most sought after destinations.
The cozy Salmon Cottage features three bedrooms and one full bath all on one floor. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and the two guest rooms each have double beds, allowing the house to accommodate 6 guests.
The house also features a well equipped kitchen with all cookware, place settings, utensils, cupboard space, stove, refrigerator and dishwasher. The breakfast bar dining area merges into the living room offering guests beautiful lake views and a relaxing space to put their feet up, gather with friends and loved ones and watch a movie on the satellite TV which also includes sports, movie and local weather and news channels.
![]() The satellite TV also comes equipped with a DVD player so vacationers can rent or bring their favorite movie. A HughesNet high speed Internet connection is also available to allow guests to keep in touch during their stay.
![]() The house also boasts a wonderful swimming beach and dock along with 3 single kayaks, paddles and life jackets. There is also a boat with motor available for rent by request. Contact the cottage’s property manager prior to your stay to reserve the motor boat and to plan great fishing trips on Big Lake for smallmouth bass, salmon and white perch.
A short drive into the village is a scenic foray into the past as you pass by small quaint guide’s houses, fishing lodges and the famed clear water of Grand Lake Stream itself. Stop by the historic Pine Tree Store and lend an ear to the fishermen’s liar’s bench and hear tales of the wilderness or purchase one of the store’s renowned wooden guide pack baskets or choose from the many hand tied salmon and trout flies.
![]() You can also rent a boat and troll on West Grand Lake for lake trout and landlocked salmon. There are many small brook trout ponds dotting the area where anglers can fly, spin or worm fish to their heart’s content. The area also provides some of the best moose watching opportunities in the state and many helpful people or guides to help show you the way to the most frequented moose watering holes. This storied wilderness village and area are waiting for you! Check with Hearts of Maine’s own fisheries biologist to help you choose a good fishing spot for the species you’re looking to catch. The cottage is 3 hours northeast of Bangor and 6½ hours from Portland. It is also 7½ hours from Boston and 12 hours from New York City. It’s also 1½ hours from Machias and 3½ hours from Bar Harbor. The cottage rents from Saturday to Saturday. A 50% reservation deposit is required to reserve the cottage. Balance due 30 days prior to arrival. A $500.00 refundable security deposit is required along with the remainder payment balance for damage/excessive cleaning costs. No extra cleaning fees or pet fees are required. Check-in time 3:00 PM and check-out time 10:00 AM the following Saturday. The cottage welcomes dogs with permission but smoking is not permitted. Available for rent from May 1st to the end of October. Rental Fees: $600 per week from May 1 to June 12 and from August 21 to October 31. $675 per week from June 12 to July 11 and $775 per week from July 11 to August 21.
